Authorities ID Boy Killed in Pomona Crash with 2 Suspected Drunk Drivers
POMONA, Calif. (May 8, 2019) – A 6-year-old Upland boy has been identified as the victim who died Tuesday in a head-on collision involving drunk drivers on White Avenue.
Julian Anthony George died in the crash that took place about 4:25 p.m. yesterday, between McKinley Avenue and Arrow Highway, according to the Pomona Police Department. Peter George, the boy’s father, was critically injured in the crash.
The child was riding in the back seat of one of the two vehicles involved in the crash. A vehicle driven by Franky Provencio, 19, of Pomona, reportedly crossed from the northbound side of White Avenue over the center divider and his 2001 GMC Yukon SUV collided with the southbound pickup truck occupied by the boy and his father. The child was not, however, in a safety seat as required by law.
Peter George suffered major injuries and was transported to a hospital with undisclosed injuries. Provencio and a passenger in his SUV were also hospitalized with undisclosed injuries.
The Pomona Police Department reported that both drivers are suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and or drugs. However, Provencio has a prior DUI conviction from 2018 and is now facing murder charges for the death of Julian George, according to a report by KTLA 5 News.
A Go Fund Me page was created to help the George family with funeral and medical expenses.
Witnesses are asked to call the Pomona Police Department’s Traffic Services Bureau at 909-802-7741 or 909-620-2048.
