Man Hit by Car in Hemet at Thompson and Florida Avenue

HEMET (June 30, 2017)- According to the Hemet Police Department, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle Thursday evening at the intersection of Florida Avenue and Thompson Street.

The collision occurred at roughly 9:00 p.m. when a man was hit by what looked to be a Toyota Corolla.

Hemet Pedestrian Accident Thursday Night, June 30

The victim who remains unidentified suffered major injuries but was conscious and able to communicate with paramedics following the collision. Footage showed the victim being put onto a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance prior to being taken to a hospital.

Authorities gave the driver of the Toyota a sobriety test as the male driver sat on the curb during the testing. The results of the tests were not provided within the report.

Footage also showed the Toyota with significant damage to its windshield.

The area where the collision took place showed a marked lit up crosswalk which the pedestrian was indicated to have been in prior to being struck.

The name of the injured victim and details on specific details about his injuries were not available.

Based on the report, there are still several unanswered questions here as liability remains in question. Was the driver under the influence of alcohol or drugs? Did excessive speed or distracted driving play a role? Was the driver negligent in any other way? A government that failed to ensure the safety of pedestrians due to poor road design or failure to maintain street lighting, may also have some responsibility. We trust officials are looking into these and other factors in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.

In such cases where negligence or wrongdoing may have been a factor, families of deceased victims can file a wrongful death lawsuit against the at-fault parties seeking compensation for damages including medical expenses, funeral costs, lost future income and loss of love and companionship.
