Woman Killed in Hit-and-run Crash on Don Julian Road
BALDWIN PARK, Calif. (Jan. 8, 2018) — Junrong Li, 81, of La Puente, was killed in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident Saturday on Don Julian Road, just west of Pamela Kay Lane, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner.
The crash took place about 6:50 p.m. as Li walked northbound across Don Julian Road. She was struck by a driver in a black or tan sedan that was heading westbound. The driver failed to stop and help the woman, instead they turned onto Workman Mill Road and kept driving.
Responding firefighters pronounced Li dead at the scene, the CHP said.
Witnesses may contact the Baldwin Park CHP Office at (626) 338-1164.
Those of us at Johnson Attorneys Group offer our condolences to the family of Junrong Li as they cope with this tragedy.
Typically, a pedestrian has the right-of-way when crossing a street and vehicles must yield to them. A driver who is speeding, distracted or driving recklessly, may not see a pedestrian if they are outside of a marked crosswalk.
A driver who strikes down a pedestrian and fails to stop, may also face criminal charges once they are located. At that time, the victim’s family may have grounds to file a civil lawsuit seeking compensation for all the medical expenses, lost wages, property damage and pain and suffering.
