4-Vehicle Crash at Van Buren and 56th Street
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. (Oct. 24, 2018) — Four people died late Tuesday night following a multi-vehicle crash in Jurupa Valley, the San Bernardino Sun reports.
UPDATE: Daniel Smith, 20, Nicholas Cahill, 20, Jellsey Clinton, 25, and Marco Aguilar, 23, all from Riverside, were identified as the men who died in the crash.
The crash, which involved four vehicles, was reported about 11:48 p.m. last night at Van Buren Boulevard and 56th Street.
Police say a driver in one of the vehicles is suspected of DUI. They were traveling northbound on Van Buren Boulevard and tried to turn westbound onto 56th Street. Unfortunately, the driver failed to negotiate the turn and instead veered into the southbound lanes of Van Buren Boulevard. The vehicle collided with the car occupied by the four men who died. The suspected drunken driver survived and was hospitalized with major injuries.
Meanwhile, two other vehicles traveling southbound sustained minor vehicle damage. Those drivers attempted to avoid the collision.
Van Buren Boulevard was closed down between Jurupa Road to Limonite Avenue for the investigation by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. Police are seeking to determine whether or not drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
Jurupa Valley Crash Investigation
Police believe the driver who caused this collision was drunk. A full report on what happened will eventually be made available to family members. The investigation will also consist of looking at measurements of evidence left by the vehicles such as point of impact, final resting positions of the vehicles, skid marks, and gouge marks.
We offer our condolences to the families of the victims who died and our prayers to the injured person who we hope fully recovers.
