Driver Hurt in Collision Near Highway 166
Bakersfield, CA (October 29, 2022) – Justin Costa, a 30-year-old man, suffered injuries following a traffic accident that occurred on Highway 99 Friday.

According to Bakersfield Now, Costa was behind the wheel of a Kia Forte heading north on SR-99. When the driver approached the area near Highway 166, Costa closed in on a Kenworth semi-trailer. For reasons still unclear, Costa failed to slow down and crashed into the rear of the trailer.
Our sources indicated the Kia became partially wedged underneath the truck. Shortly after 11:43 a.m., rescue teams arrived at the scene and found the driver of the Kia pinned inside the wreckage. Responding Kern County firefighters worked extensively to pull out the victim. After the extrication process, an air ambulance transported Justin Costa to Kern Medical for treatment of major trauma.
Meanwhile, the driver of the semi truck appeared unharmed after the incident.
Detectives handling the case continue to investigate the precise cause of the crash that happened on Highway 99 in Bakersfield.
