Chino Man, 25, Identified as Victim of Collision on State Route 91
RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif. (Sept. 13, 2024) — Justin Winans, 25, of Chino, died and others were injured near Corona late Thursday after a crash on the eastbound Riverside 91 Freeway, just east of Buchanan Street.
The deadly crash occurred at 11:50 p.m. on Sept. 12th, in Riverside County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported a blue vehicle and a U-Haul truck were stuck together following the collision.
The vehicles involved included a white Toyota Corolla, a tan Chevrolet Suburban or Tahoe SUV, and a second Toyota Camry or similar vehicle.
The young man suffered major injuries and died on scene at 12:24 a.m. on Sept. 13th, according to the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner. Police did not mention which vehicle he was traveling in or whether he was a driver or passenger.
CHP dispatchers were notified by an automated iPhone call and spoke to a woman in one of the cars who told them the vehicle was totaled. The woman was in pain and became unresponsive during the call and then told authorities she was trapped by her seatbelt.
Also, the report stated a mother with three children became trapped in her Suburban SUV.
The Riverside Fire Department responded to rescue the injured from the vehicles and unfortunately at least one person died on scene. It’s unknown how many were hospitalized at this time.
Investigators are working to determine fault for the crash on the 91 Freeway in Corona.
