Juventino Abarca in Wheelchair, 68, Seriously Injured in Santa Rosa Crash

SANTA ROSA, CA (July 20, 2021) – A man in wheelchair, Juventino Abarca, was seriously injured in Santa Rosa crash at Dutton Avenue and Sebastopol Road.

The California Highway Patrol identified the 68-year-old man as the victim of the accident which occurred on Tuesday morning.

The incident happened when Juventino Abarca was in his motorized wheelchair going east on Dutton Avenue at Sebastopol Road in Santa Rosa.

At the same time, a GMC truck was traveling east on Sebastopol. CHP said its driver, 29-year-old Edwin Valle-Morales, made a left turn on Dutton.

Victim Dragged by Car

In the process, the Santa Rosa man hit Juventino Abarca in the crosswalk. The Press Democrat wrote that the collision took place at about 6:30 a.m.

The GMC dragged the man and his wheelchair for about 60 feet at about 20 mph. Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene and found him suffering from major injuries.

The victim sustained a broken left arm, a cut to his head, lacerations of his liver and chest and abdominal pain. Medical personnel took him to the Santa Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, Edwin Valle-Morales told CHP that he did not see the man on the road and struck him. The Santa Rosa crash is still under investigation.
