Hit-and-Run and DUI Suspect Jyvante West Arrested After Fatal Crash at 6th and Magnolia
LONG BEACH, Ca (May 30, 2020) – 26-year-old Jyvante West was identified as the suspect who struck a pedestrian at the intersection of 6th Street and Magnolia Avenue Tuesday evening.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, West was involved in a commercial burglary in the 2100 block of Gaylord Street around 11:10 p.m. When officers arrived, West reportedly fled the scene in a 2016 Mercedes Benz GLE. Police then initiated a pursuit.

Our sources indicated West struck a pedestrian when he reached the crossing at 6th and Magnolia. The high-speed chase ended in a collision that tragically killed 32-year-old Jose Hernandez, of Long Beach.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Mercedes was reportedly booked for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, hit-and-run resulting in death, driving under the influence of drugs causing injury, evading a police officer, commercial burglary, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
The detectives handling the case continue to investigate several factors surrounding the fatal accident.
