Karen Maduena, 26, Injured in Dixon Fatal Crash on Westbound Interstate 80
DIXON, CA (April 12, 2021) – Karen Maduena was hospitalized after a fatal DUI crash along the Interstate Highway 80 in Dixon.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 26-year-old Suisun City woman as one of the injured drivers in the wreck on Sunday morning.
The incident began when a black Mazda CX5 was traveling at a high rate of speed west on the Interstate 80, west of Dixon Avenue. Its driver, 31-year-old Larry Bowie, rear-ended a silver Hyundai Elantra.
Several people stopped at the crash site and helped the involved parties. A red Toyota Tacoma drove into the area and struck the silver Toyota Prius driven by Karen Maduena.

CHP said the Tacoma then slammed into the Mazda and Bowie, standing outside his vehicle. The impact pushed the Tacoma forward and ultimately struck one of the Good Samaritans.
According to reports by The Reporter and KRON 4 News, the accident occurred on April 11 at about 2:38 a.m. The person hit by the Tacoma died at the scene.
Paramedics took Karen Maduena to Kaiser Permanente Vacaville Medical Center with minor injuries. Bowie, of Vallejo, and the driver of the Tacoma suffered major injuries as a result of the crash.
Medical personnel also transported them for treatment. Meanwhile, CHP determined that the man driving the Tacoma was under the influence of alcohol when the wreck happened.
Authorities soon arrested him on suspicion of felony DUI. The tragic crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information can call the CHP at (707) 428-2100.
