Karen Ward, 68, Killed in Crash at Fowler and American Thursday
FOWLER, Ca (March 5, 2020) – An elderly woman died in a traffic collision at the intersection of Fowler and American avenues Thursday morning, the Fresno Bee News reported.
Preliminary investigation revealed 71-year-old Douglas Ward was driving with his wife headed south of Fowler. As their white Ford Fusion approached the intersection at American Avenue, officials believed Ward failed to stop and yield at the stop sign for approaching traffic.
The Fusion ended up crashing with a tractor-trailer traveling west on American Avenue.
Shortly after 8:30 a.m., emergency crews arrived at the scene and found Karen and Douglas suffering in injuries. A short time after the mishap, Karen sadly succumbed to her injuries and died.

Officials added Douglas sustained major injuries and received treatment at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.
Meanwhile, our sources mentioned 45-year-old Justo Cantu Jr., from Del Rey, the man operating the tractor-trailer, was unharmed after the mishap. However, authorities determined Cantu was not licensed to drive a commercial vehicle.
Further investigation on the case is underway.
