2 Injured in Kearny Mesa Crash at Viewridge and Balboa
SAN DIEGO, CA (May 25, 2023) – A crash injured two people at Viewridge Avenue and Balboa Avenue in the Kearny Mesa neighborhood of San Diego.
According to an article published by the FOX 5 News, the accident took place on Tuesday afternoon. Officers reported the collision on May 23 at about Tuesday p.m.
The incident began when a 57-year-old man was riding an 18-speed road bike southbound at Viewridge Avenue and Balboa Avenue in Kearny Mesa. He was in a marked crosswalk with a stale green traffic light.
At the same time, the rider of a black 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle was going east in the right-hand lane of the 9400 block of Balboa Avenue.
The motorcyclist, a 61-year-old man, passed vehicles on the right shoulder and then approached the intersection facing a red traffic light.
Motorcycle and Bike Collide
As the bicyclist crossed the eastbound lanes, the motorcyclist’s traffic light turned green. San Diego police said the motorcycle operator failed to see the cyclist and struck him.
The bicyclist sustained major injuries as a result of the accident. His injuries included an open fracture to his left lower leg, a laceration to is right eyebrow and multiple abrasions throughout his body.
The motorcyclist survived with abrasions to the left side of his body and chin. Paramedics arrived at the scene and rushed at least one patient to a hospital for treatment.
The report did not disclose the names of the wounded parties and their condition at this time. Meanwhile, police forced the area of Viewridge and Balboa to shut down following the collision.
The cause of the Kearny Mesa crash is still under investigation.
