Kelley Clark ID’d as Man Killed in Pedestrian Accident
SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. (Jan. 5, 2018) — Kelley Dean Clark, 58, of Redding was struck by a 2013 Peterbilt truck and killed on Dec. 27 on the Interstate 5 Freeway near Cypress Avenue, according to the Shasta County Coroner’s Office.
The Redding Searchlight reported the crash took place about 8:30 p.m. after witnesses saw the man stumbling near the roadway.
The coroner is conducting an autopsy and liability for the collision is still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol. Police do not believe any crime was committed by the truck driver.
Our condolences go out to the family of this man as they cope with this tragedy.
Typically, a pedestrian has the right-of-way when crossing a street and vehicles must yield to them. A driver who is speeding, distracted or driving recklessly, may not see a pedestrian if they are outside of a marked crosswalk.
If it is determined that a driver was negligent and caused an injury or death, the victim’s family may have grounds to file a civil lawsuit seeking compensation for all the medical expenses, lost wages, property damage and pain and suffering.
