Man Killed in Crash with Wrong-Way Driver ID’d
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (May 26, 2023) – Taxi driver, Ken Balayev, 71, of Calabasas, died in a head-on crash with a wrong way driver on the Harbor 110 Freeway near Exposition Boulevard in downtown Los Angeles.
Three other people were critically injured in the 2:49 a.m. traffic accident on May 26th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Several vehicles, including the taxi carrying two passengers, collided in the northbound lanes of the Harbor (110) Freeway, according to MyNewsLA.
A woman driving a black sedan was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when she slammed into the taxi driver, causing him major injuries. Paramedics responded and rushed him to a hospital where he later died. The Los Angeles County Sheriff Coroner identified the victim as Ken Balayev.
Three other people including the wrong-way driver suffered major injuries and were hospitalized after the fatal crash on the 110 Freeway.
Police closed all lanes of the northbound freeway to conduct an investigation into what happened and determine fault.
The freeway reopened by 6 a.m. the same day.
