IDENTIFIED: Man and His Dog Struck, Killed on Rohnert Park Expressway
ROHNERT PARK, Calif. (Jan. 19, 2024) — Kenneth Lujan, 61, of Rohnert Park. and his dog, were both struck and killed Sunday morning in a pedestrian accident while crossing the Rohnert Park Expressway.
The deadly crash occurred amid heavy fog at around 7 a.m. on Jan. 14th in an area with dim lighting, near the rail crossing at the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit station, according to the Patch and an ABC 7 News report.
It was one of two accidents in the area involving a pedestrian walking their dog.
Police and paramedics responded to the eastbound side of the Rohnert Park Expressway near the railroad crossing, the report said.
They located Kenneth Lujan suffering from cardiac arrest in the number one lane near his deceased dog in the roadway. Paramedics provided CPR to the victim, but unfortunately he died at the scene.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Lexus sedan stopped and cooperated with police who are heading up the investigation into liability for the crash.
However, the fatal crash was just one of two collisions involving people walking dogs in the area that happened within one hour of one another. The second collision happened one hour later at 8:07 a.m. on the 4000 block of Dowdell Avenue. The pedestrian was unharmed, but their dog was killed and the driver in this case fled the scene in a blue lifted Toyota pickup truck, NBC News reports.
