KERN COUNTY: Car, Bus Crash Interstate 5 Freeway, Lebec Road
2 Hospitalized, 4 Others Hurt in 2-Vehicle Traffic Accident
KERN COUNTY, (Dec. 19, 2023) — Two people were critically injured Monday morning in a crash between a car and a bus on the Interstate 5 Freeway near Lebec Road in Kern County.
The collision occurred at around 6:53 a.m. on Dec. 18th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported the car reportedly collided with the bus before it went off the freeway and hit a guardrail, a fence and a pillar supporting a bridge.
Paramedics responded and requested an air ambulance to transport two people from the car to a trauma center for treatment of major injuries. Authorities say the man who was driving the car had facial injuries and his female passenger had other severe injuries.
Meanwhile, CHP officials reported there were four people who were aboard the bus reporting complaints of pain, but it’s unknown if any of them went to a hospital or doctor.
The cause of the crash and liability will be determined following the completed traffic investigation.
