Major Injury Crash on 14 Freeway in Kern County
KERN COUNTY, Calif. (April 20, 2021) — A Kern County crash on the 14 Freeway happened Tuesday morning near Red Rock Inyokern Road.
The major-injury collision happened at 4:28 a.m. on April 20th near Red Rock Canyon State Park, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Truck Fire Spreads to Grass after Semi-Truck, Car Crash
The semi-truck involved in the crash with a blue 2002 Honda Accord sedan became fully engulfed in flames following the incident. Meanwhile, the fire quickly spread from the Kern County crash to the grass in the surrounding area, police said.
Kern County firefighters responded to put out the fire and assist at least one person with major injuries.
Police closed down State Route 14 Freeway due to vehicles blocking the roadway. The closure started at Redrock Randsburg Road to the south and State Route 178 just north of the crash. Additionally, tow trucks removed both, heavily-damaged vehicles from the scene.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the Kern County crash.
