1 Killed in Kern County Crash on Interstate 5 and Highway 99
KERN COUNTY, CA (April 8, 2023) – A crash killed at least one person on the Interstate 5 and Highway 99 transition in Kern County.
According to an article published by the Kern Golden Empire, the tragic accident took place on Saturday morning. Officers reported the wreck on April 8 at about 6:22 a.m.
The incident happened when three cars collided for an unknown reason in the Wheeler Ridge area of Kern County. The vehicles crashed on the northbound Interstate 5 and Highway 99 interchange.
Multiple Cars Collide
A California Highway Patrol dispatch described the cars as an SUV, a pickup truck, and a Toyota sedan. The report added that the Toyota struck the rear of the pickup and the SUV hit the left side of the truck.
The driver of the pickup ended up ejected from their car upon impact. Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene.
Medical personnel confirmed that one individual died as a result of the collision. The name of the deceased party has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, officers forced the Interstate 5 and Highway 99 to shut down for hours following the wreck. The cause of the fatal Kern County crash is still under investigation.
