2 Truck Drivers Injured in Kern County Crash on 5 Freeway

KERN COUNTY (January 19, 2018) – A major injury collision took place on the Interstate 5 Freeway near Grapevine Road Friday morning, according to Bakersfield Now and 23 ABC News.

The accident occurred just before 6 a.m. near Bakersfield.

As per the reports, California Highway Patrol said a big rig was allegedly traveling faster than the truck ahead on the southbound 5 Freeway. The operator of the big rig reportedly failed to notice that the truck slowed down and ultimately struck the other tractor-trailer.

CHP affirmed that two people were injured following the crash. A driver of one of the trucks involved was pinned in the wreckage and was seriously injured while the other complained of pain. Their names and condition at this time were not disclosed.

Meanwhile, officials mentioned that a passenger was sleeping in one of the big rigs at the time of the wreck. It was not immediately known if that person was hurt. The investigation is ongoing.
