Kevin Dougherty, 59, ID’d as Suspect in Snelling Fatal DUI Crash on Merced Falls
SNELLING, CA (June 13, 2022) – Authorities detained Kevin Dougherty after a fatal DUI crash on Merced Falls Road near Snelling.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 59-year-old Snelling man was under the influence of narcotics when he killed a motorcyclist.
The incident began when Kevin Dougherty was driving a 2015 Jeep Cherokee east on Merced Falls Road near Snelling. At the same time, Melvin Pryor was riding a 2000 custom motorcycle west.
The driver of the Jeep then tried to make a left turn into a private driveway. CHP said in the process, he went directly into the path of the 57-year-old rider.

The car struck the motorcyclist head-on, east of Highway 59. The Merced Sun Star wrote that the wreck happened on May 31 at about 8:25 p.m.
Melvin Pryor ended up trapped underneath the Cherokee as a result of the collision. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and freed him from the wreckage.
The victim sustained major injuries following the accident. An air ambulance took him to the Memorial Medical Center in Modesto, where he died.
Meanwhile, CHP soon arrested Kevin Dougherty on suspicion of felony DUI causing bodily injury. He and his passenger, a 40-year-old man, did not sustain any wound after the incident.
The Snelling DUI crash is still under investigation.
