Officer Kiashira Ruiz Injured After Chase Ends in Crash on Sylvan Avenue

September 12, 2018 – A police chase ended in a traffic collision Wednesday afternoon on Sylvan Avenue, according to Modesto Bee.
At about 2 p.m. on Wednesday, a witness called police after seeing two people breaking into a community mailbox in the Eastgate neighborhood. The suspects reportedly left the scene in a Toyota Yaris.
Responding officers apparently attempted to pull over the suspects, but the Yaris driver failed to yield.
Ceres officers then pursued the vehicle as it drove in circles around north Modesto. The chase came to a stop when the Yaris and a Ceres police K9 officer vehicle collided on Sylvan Avenue, east of McHenry.
Injury Car Accident Wednesday in Modesto
Paramedics said the K9 officer, Kiashira Ruiz, suffered injuries as a result of the wreck and was provided treatment at the scene.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Toyota, 25-year-old Carlos Gomez of Tracy, and passenger, 22-year-old Richard Raygoza of Modesto, were taken to a Modesto hospital for evaluation before being booked. Charges are pending, officials said.
Further investigation on the case is underway.
