Kimberly Bennett, 33, Killed in Riverside DUI Hit-and-Run on Mission Inn Avenue
RIVERSIDE, CA (April 23, 2021) – A DUI hit-and-run crash along Mission Inn Avenue killed Kimberly Bennett in Riverside.
Authorities identified the 33-year-old San Bernardino woman as the victim of the fatal accident which occurred on Saturday evening.
Police said Kimberly Bennett was walking on the sidewalk when she witnessed a dog struck by a car in the 4600 block of Mission Inn in Riverside.
She walked into eastbound lanes near Indian Hills Road to help the injured dog. At the same time, a red 2003 Ford Ranger was traveling in the same direction.
Mason Rodney Howard, 22, Arrested
The driver of the Ford, Mason Rodney Howard, then hit Kimberly Bennett. The Orange County Register and My News LA reported the incident on April 17 at about 7:53 p.m.
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and pronounced the good Samaritan dead at the scene. Meanwhile, police affirmed that Mason Howard did not stop to render aid to her and sped eastbound.
Officers located the 22-year-old Laguna Niguel man and determined he was under the influence at the time. They soon booked him into the Robert Presley Detention Center in lieu of a $1 million bail.
However, he pleaded not guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and then fleeing a crime scene. Records showed that he has a misdemeanor DUI conviction from an offense that happened in the Coachella Valley in 2017.
