Boy, 12, Critically Injured in Hit-and-run Crash
KERN COUNTY, Calif. (August 1, 2023) — Ki’won Shepperd, 12, is one of three children injured in a hit-and-run bicycle accident on Planz Road in Bakersfield.
The hit-and-run crash occurred around 9 p.m. on July 30th, according to the Bakersfield Police Department. A driver in a brown or gold possible Kia Forte struck the kids on bikes from behind and fled the scene without stopping to help them. They were riding in a two-way left-turn storage lane in the 2300 block of Planz Road.
The boy, who will be a 7th grader at Greenfield Middle School in the fall, suffered major injuries in the crash. Meanwhile, two others had minor injuries. Paramedics with the Kern County Fire Department responded and rushed two of the children to a children’s hospital in Madera.
