
Kyle Ohlwiler, 34; and Hayley Ohlwiler, 31, Seriously Injured in Las Flores Fatal DUI Crash
LAS FLORES, CA (April 4, 2023) – Kyle Ohlwiler and Hayley Ohlwiler were seriously injured after a DUI crash that killed their baby in Las Flores.
The California Highway Patrol identified the Rancho Santa Margarita family as victims in the fatal collision which occurred on Sunday.
The incident happened when Kyle Ohlwiler and Hayley Ohlwiler were walking with their child in a stroller on a sidewalk along Antonio Parkway in Las Flores.
At the same time, a 2017 Hyundai Sonata was going north on Antonio. The driver, 54-year-old Daniel Patrick Lenihan, then veered off the roadway and traveled a few hundred feet along the sidewalk.
Infant Killed in Collision
CHP said in the process, the San Clemente man struck the pedestrians. The Orange County Register and ABC 7 News wrote that the accident took place on April 2 at around 4:15 p.m. south of Oaktree.
Kyle Ohlwiler, 34; Hayley Ohlwiler, 31; and their 11-month-old infant sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. Paramedics rushed them to a Mission Viejo hospital, where their baby died.
Meanwhile, officers determined that Daniel Lenihan was under the influence of drugs when he hit the family. They soon arrested him on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
Loved ones set up a GoFundMe page to cover the funeral and medical expenses of the Ohlwiler family. The Las Flores DUI crash is still under investigation.
