
La Jolla bicycle DUI crash Torrey Pines
Bicycle Rider Injured in La Jolla DUI Crash on Torrey Pines Road
SAN DIEGO, CA (July 4, 2021) – A bicycle rider was injured after a DUI crash on North Torrey Pines Road in the La Jolla neighborhood.
According to an article published by the San Diego Union-Tribune, the accident took place on Saturday night. Officers reported the collision shortly just after 9 p.m.
The incident happened on July 3 when a 56-year-old man was riding as a bicycle eastbound on North Torrey Pines Road in La Jolla. He was in the marked bicycle lane at the time.
Police said a 2020 Lexus NX300 swerved into the bike lane and struck the bicyclist from behind. Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene near Muir College Drive.
Victim Hit by Drunk Driver
They found the cyclist hurt as a result of the collision. Medical personnel then took him to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening multiple facial injuries.
Officials did not disclose the name of the wounded victim and his condition at this time. Meanwhile, police determined that the driver was under the influence of alcohol when she hit the bicyclist.
Authorities arrested the 45-year-old woman driving the Lexus on suspicion of DUI. Officers forced a portion of Torrey Pines Road to shut down following the collision.
The La Jolla DUI crash is still under investigation.
