1 Seriously Injuries in La Jolla Crash on Southbound Interstate 5
LA JOLLA, CA (February 22, 2021) – A car crash left at least one person seriously injured along the Interstate 5 in La Jolla.
The California Highway Patrol said the series of traffic collisions occurred on Monday night in La Jolla. Officers reported the incident shortly after 10:30 p.m.
According to their dispatch, a total of four accidents took place on the southbound Interstate 5, south of Genesee Avenue. The incident began when a DUI driver crashed, resulting in minor injuries.
4 Car Collisions Near Genesee Avenue Monday
CHP described the second as a non-injury solo-vehicle wreck. They classified the third as a minor injury, which involved two cars. Two other vehicles collided and prompted the fourth collision.
Firefighters along with the paramedics then responded to the scene. They attended to one person involved in the fourth crash who suffered major injuries as a result of the incident.
Medical personnel soon took the wounded party to the hospital for treatment. The name of the patient and their condition at this time were not released.
Meanwhile, officers forced the southbound Interstate 5 in La Jolla to shut down following the accidents. Authorities are still investigating the crash.
