At about 12:20 a.m., the driver of a white Oldsmobile, Randy Albert Gaster, 53, blew through a stop sign and lost control at the intersection of Pearl Street and Olivetas Avenue.
Gaster’s vehicle eventually plowed into a home and crashed through the wall, where an unidentified 96-year-old man lived and had been sleeping before causing fatal injuries to the victim.
Gaster was determined to have been under the influence and was subsequently arrested and taken to jail. He will be charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving with a suspended license.
San Diego police officials are investigating the incident.
