Boy, 15, Seriously Injured in Scooter Accident at Via La Jolla Drive and Via Mallorca
LA JOLLA (April 14, 2019) – A teenage scooter rider was seriously injured after a traffic collision in the area of Via La Jolla Drive and Via Mallorca Sunday morning.
Police said a 15-year-old boy was riding a scooter west across Via La Jolla Drive with a green light when at the same time a Honda Civic was headed south.
The driver of the car then allegedly ran a red light at the intersection and struck the teen who was in a crosswalk. The accident took place shortly after 11:30 a.m.

According to FOX 5 News, fire department officials along with the paramedics responded to the scene and found the young victim suffering from compound fracture to his ankle as a result of the crash.
The patient was immediately transported to the hospital for further aid. His name and condition at this time were not released.
Meanwhile, police did not specify if the motorist involved stopped after hitting the scooter rider. Authorities are still investigating the incident.
