LA MESA, California (April 2, 2016) – A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a collision in the area of University Avenue and Memorial Drive on Friday evening, according to UT San Diego. (map)
The crash occurred about 6:15 p.m.
As per the article, police said the man riding a motorcycle was hit by a minivan that did not stop and ran a red light as it was traveling west on University Avenue at Memorial Drive.
The rider was thrown from the bike and onto the road, about 30 feet away. He was rushed to a trauma center with a cut on the back of his head and a broken leg.
Police added that the victim, whose name was not publicized, is expected to survive.
Meanwhile, it was not immediately known why the minivan motorist drove through the red light. Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the accident which is still under investigation.
