LA QUINTA, California (January 30, 2015) – A major-injury crash between two pickup truck drivers was reported Thursday night at the intersection of Highway 111 at Depot Drive, according to a press release by the Riverside County Sheriff Department.
About 8:31 p.m., La Quinta Police officers say a gray Chevrolet pickup truck made a turn onto Highway 111 and crashed into the driver of a burgundy Ford Ranger pickup truck that was heading westbound on Highway 111, the report said.
The driver of the Ford Ranger became trapped in his vehicle and required extrication by CAL FIRE/Riverside firefighters. He was critically injured in the crash and paramedics airlifted him and transported him to a local hospital where he is being treated for major injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck complained of elbow and hip pain and was also hospitalized.
The driver of a black Nissan Altima sustained only minor property damage when their vehicle was struck by debris from the crash.
A police investigation is underway, however, alcohol and drugs are not suspected. Witnesses are asked to contact La Quinta Police Department at 760-863-8990.
“This is a tragedy for the family of these two young people as they cope with his sudden loss,” said Attorney James Johnson. “My prayers go out to the others who were hurt in hopes they have a full recovery.”
