Bicycle Rider Killed in Ladera Heights DUI Crash at Centinela and Alvern
LADERA HEIGHTS, CA (September 19, 2021) – A bicycle rider was killed after a DUI crash at Centinela Avenue and Alvern Street in Ladera Heights.
According to an article published by My News LA, the tragic accident took place early Saturday morning. Officers reported the collision at about 4:40 a.m.
The incident happened on September 18 when a 71-year-old man was riding a Cannondale bicycle south on Alvern Street in Ladera Heights.
At the same time, a 2019 Toyota Camry was going west on Centinela Avenue in the No. 2 lane. After some time, the bicycle rider made a right turn onto westbound Centinela.

The California Highway Patrol said in the process, the Toyota struck the bicyclist. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and found the victim lying on the ground.
Medical personnel soon pronounced the man dead at the scene. His name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, police determined that the driver of the Camry was under the influence when he hit the cyclist. Officers forced the area of Centinela and Alvern to shut down following the bicycle collision.
The fatal Ladera Heights DUI crash is still under investigation.
