Lafayette bicycle accident Pleasant Hill Road, Olympic Boulevard
LAFAYETTE, Calif. (April 13, 2021) –A Lafayette bicycle accident happened today at Pleasant Hill Road and Olympic Boulevard.
A vehicle collided with a bicyclist early Tuesday morning about 7:17 a.m. on April 13th, according to the Lafayette Police Department.
Joe Shami, 86, of Lafayette, is identified as bicyclist killed in crash, according to the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office.
Additionally, the victim was an avid bicyclist known among his peers as the “The Legend of Mount Diablo.” He apparently rode his bicycle up the mountain on a weekly basis.

Also, the collision led to the partial shutdown of the roundabout intersection, according to police.
Additionally, there were few details about what led up to the collision in the police statement.
Meanwhile, it appears that only the bicycle rider was treated by paramedics for injuries. The report did not say if the bicyclist was taken to a hospital.
The investigation into the Lafayette bicycle accident is ongoing. It’s unknown if police cited the driver or if charges will be filed.
