1 Dead, 1 Hurt in San Leandro Car Accident I-580
SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (May 7, 2019) — Lakaylyn Thomas, 19, of Oakland, was identified as the woman who died in a two-vehicle collision Tuesday on the Interstate 580 Freeway.
The crash was reported at 2:30 p.m. between a white Ford Fusion sedan and a tan Buick sedan. The vehicles may have been driving at a high rate of speed prior to sideswiping one anther, according to East Bay Times. Both of the vehicles went off the roadway, down an embankment and into the bushes where Thomas’ vehicle crashed into a tree. Thomas was confirmed dead at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Meanwhile, the Alameda County Fire Department responded to help at least one person who was injured in the Ford.
The crash remains under investigation by the CHP.
