LAKE ELSINORE, California (October 24, 2016) –Two people suffered injuries Saturday in a crash involving a suspected DUI and hit-and-run driver on Railroad Canyon at Church Street, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The crash took place about 5:30 p.m.. The Lake Elsinore Police Department responded to the scene and found two vehicles that were heavily damaged and live power lines had fallen down at the intersection.
Driver Jose Ramirez, 21, of Wildomar attempted to flee the scene of the crash, but was caught by an off-duty Fullerton police officer. The Lake Elsinore Police Department responded and arrested Ramirez and charged with DUI and hit-and-run.
The man’s daughter and the other driver involved were both injured in the crash and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Police closed down the roadway between Canyon Hills Rd. and Grape Street.
The crash remains under investigation by police. The collision caused a local power outage and Southern California Edison was called to the scene to repaired damaged power lines.
