LAKE ELSINORE, California (October 12, 2015) — A 21-year-old Murrieta man riding a bicycle died following a car crash Friday night when a suspected DUI driver struck him from behind on Railroad Canyon Road, just south of Summerhill Drive, a report by the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner said.
Paramedics responded to the crash about 8:58 p.m. and quickly transported the injured rider to a local hospital, but sadly he died the following day of his injuries.
The suspected drunken driver was identified as Thelma Trachy, 75, of Murrieta. She was arrested and taken to Southwest Detention Center.
Witnesses are asked to contact the Lake Elsinore Police Department at (951) 776-1099.
“This is absolutely no valid reason for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” said Attorney James Johnson. “A young man with his whole life ahead of him has died. It didn’t have to happen. Period. If you are drunk, take a taxi or Uber, call a friend or family member, get a hotel or stay over where you are until you sober up.”
