LAKE FOREST, California (May 5, 2016) — A suspected DUI driver crashed his car into a tree killing a 26-year-old Jessica Lujan of Anaheim who was a passenger in the vehicle early Thursday morning at the intersection of Lake Forest Drive at Jeronimo Road, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
The fatal crash took place about 3:35 a.m. this morning. Police say the driver of a 1964 Dodge Dart, a 27-year-old male, and his female passenger were both trapped inside the vehicle after it slammed into a tree.
Paramedics rushed them both to Mission Hospital, but the woman died just hours after her 26th birthday. The male driver was treated for internal injuries and is expected to survive. Police stated the classic car’s lack of airbags may have contributed to the more serious injuries and the woman’s death. Police are investigating the case and expect to charge the man for vehicular homicide and DUI.
