1 Killed, 2 Injured in Lakeside Head-On Crash on Los Coches Road
LAKESIDE, CA (February 1, 2022) – A head-on crash killed one person and injured two others on Los Coches Road in Lakeside.
According to The San Diego Union-Tribune and FOX 5 News, the tragic accident took place on Tuesday afternoon. Officers reported the wreck at about 2:10 p.m.
The incident began when a 2005 Audi A6 north on Los Coches Road in Lakeside. At the same time, a Helix Water District dump truck was going south.
For an unknown reason, the Audi veered into the southbound lane. The California Highway Patrol said the car then slammed head-on into the 2006 International 4400 dump truck which turned from Lakeview Road.
Car and Dump Truck Collide
The 56-year-old El Cajon man driving the Audi sustained major injuries as a result of the collision. Paramedics rushed him to the Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, where he died.
The passenger in the car, a 42-year-old El Cajon woman, and the operator of the truck, a 60-year-old San Diego man, survived with minor to moderate injuries.
Medical personnel took both patients to hospitals for treatment. The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released.
Meanwhile, CHP forced a stretch of Los Coches Road to shut down for hours following the wreck. The cause of the fatal Lakeside crash is still under investigation.
