4 Injured in Lakeside Wrong-Way Crash on State Route 67 Near Mapleview
LAKESIDE, CA (August 8, 2022) – A wrong-way DUI crash injured several people on State Route 67 in Lakeside.
According to The San Diego Union-Tribune and FOX 5 News, the accident took place late Sunday night. Officers reported the wreck at around 11:25 p.m.
The incident happened on August 7 when a Toyota 4Runner made a U-turn at the intersection of State Route 67 and Mapleview Street in Lakeside.
The California Highway Patrol said the SUV then began going south in the northbound lanes of SR-67. At the same time, a Toyota Highlander was traveling north.
In the process, the 4Runner slammed into the Highlander. The front passenger of the Highlander, a 18-year-old man, sustained major injuries as a result of the collision.
Drunk Driver Hits Another Car
Paramedics rushed him to the Scripps Mercy for treatment. The driver of the Highlander, a 23-year-old man, and the 29-year-old back seat passenger survived with minor to moderate injuries.
The 51-year-old man driving the 4Runner obtained minor injuries. Medical personnel took all three patients to the Sharp Memorial Hospital for further aid.
The report did not release the names of the wounded parties and their condition at this time. Meanwhile, CHP determined that the wrong-way motorist was under the influence of alcohol.
They soon arrested and booked him into the San Diego County Jail on suspicion of felony DUI. Officers forced northbound lanes of State Route 67 to shut down following the wreck.
The Lakeside wrong-way crash is still under investigation.
