LAKEVIEW: Crash on Copus Road Near Old River in Kern County

KERN COUNTY, Calif. (July 7, 2026) — Emergency crews responded Tuesday afternoon to a two-vehicle crash with injuries on Copus Road west of Old River Road in the Lakeview area of southwestern Kern County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported on July 7th at approximately 2:40 p.m. near Satter Road and Copus Road. Initial dispatch information indicated the collision involved two Honda vehicles, with two people reported injured. Airbags were deployed in at least one of the vehicles.
The collision blocked the roadway as firefighters, paramedics and CHP officers responded to the scene.
Dispatch logs indicate that shortly after the crash, a reporting party told authorities that a light blue Honda van picked up a man involved in the collision and was last seen traveling eastbound on Copus Road. A separate report also described a blue van leaving the area southbound on Satter Road. It was not immediately clear why the individual left the scene or whether any criminal investigation is underway.
At 2:57 p.m., the CHP updated the incident from a crash with unknown injuries to a collision with emergency responders on scene.
Authorities requested a tow truck to remove one of the damaged vehicles, and CHP later reported that the eastbound lane would remain blocked while crews investigated and cleared the wreckage.
The extent of the victims’ injuries has not been released, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
