LAPD Vehicle Hits Pedestrian on Normandie Avenue in South L.A.
Police Cruiser Crashes into Man on Sidewalk
SOUTH LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Nov. 29, 2023) — A LAPD police vehicle crashed into a pedestrian walking on a sidewalk on South Normandie Avenue early Wednesday in South Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Police Department vehicle struck the man identified as Chris Davis at around 12:30 a.m. on Nov. 29th, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The police officer reportedly lost control of the vehicle due to unknown circumstances.
Surveillance video shows Chris Davis walking along the sidewalk wearing a bright yellow vest. He is seen turning after hearing the sound of screeching tires from behind him, but is unable to avoid being hit by the vehicle.
It turns out the police officer was traveling northbound on Normandie Avenue when the front wheels locked up and he lost control, just south of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, the report said.
The vehicle sideswiped a parked vehicle and slid up onto the sidewalk where it struck Davis before coming to a stop. The car apparently pinned the man’s leg up against the wall of a building next to him.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded with paramedics and transported the injured man to a hospital for treatment of undisclosed minor injuries.
The case remains under investigation.
