Larry Stanford; 67; and Penny Stanford, 63, Killed in Madera Crash on Highway 145
MADERA, CA (July 8, 2021) – A motorcycle crash killed Larry Stanford and Penny Stanford on Highway 145 east of Madera.
The Madera County Coroner’s Office identified the Chowchilla couple as the victims of the fatal wreck which occurred on Wednesday.
The incident happened when Larry Dale Stanford was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle west on Highway 145 in Madera with Penny Louis Stanford as his passenger.
At the same time, a Hyundai was going east. Its driver, 60-year-old Coarsegold resident Mark Cully, tried to make a left turn in front of the motorcycle. In the process, the car then collided with the riders near Island Drive.

The Fresno Bee and FOX 26 News wrote that the accident took place on July 7 at about 11:12 p.m. Both Larry Stanford, 67; and Penny Stanford, 63, ended up ejected from the bike as a result of the crash.
An air ambulance took the male victim to the Community Regional Medical Center. A ground ambulance rushed the female patient to the Madera Community Hospital. Both of them later died.
Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that Mark Cully did not sustain any wound upon impact. Officers forced a portion of Highway 145 to shut down for about an hour following the wreck.
The cause of the Madera crash is still under investigation.
