DUI Driver Leigha Addington, 28, Hits Another Car Head-On in Fresno Crash
FRESNO, CA (April 18, 2021) – Authorities detained Leigha Addington after a DUI crash along Highway 180 in Fresno on Saturday.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 28-year-old Fresno woman was under the influence of alcohol, nearly three times the legal limit.
The incident happened on April 17 when Leigha Addington was driving a GMC pickup west on Highway 180, west of Cornelia Avenue, in Fresno. At the same time, a Honda CR-V was going east.
CHP said the truck failed to maintain its lane and crossed over the eastbound lane of Highway 180 directly into the path of the Honda.
Woman, 66, Critically Injured in Highway 180 Collision
In the process, the two cars collided head-on and sustained major damage upon impact. According to The Fresno Bee and Your Central Valley, officers reported the accident shortly before 5 p.m.
Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene. They found the 66-year-old woman driving the CR-V suffering from major injuries as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel rushed her to the Community Regional Medical Center and listed her in critical condition. Her name was not released.
Meanwhile, Leigha Addington was hospitalized with minor wounds. Authorities soon arrested her on suspicion of DUI. They added that she has multiple prior DUIs with multiple convictions.
Officials forced Highway 180 to close for more than one hour following the wreck. Authorities are still investigating the Fresno DUI crash.
