Mattress in Middle of Highway Causes Multi-Vehicle Injury Crash
LEMON GROVE (August 2, 2018)- According to the California Highway Patrol, at least two vehicles possibly three were involved in a collision after a mattress fell off the bed of a pickup truck into traffic lanes on westbound Highway 94.
Authorities responded to the crash which occurred at 11:49 a.m. between a pickup truck, a sedan, and possibly a third vehicle.
CHP officials indicated that the driver of the pickup truck was unable to avoid the mattress blocking the road causing the motorist to trigger a collision with the sedan and the alleged third vehicle.
The fire department was immediately notified to attend the scene as there were confirmed injuries to several of the involved motorists.
Several ambulances arrived and transported at least two victims to nearby medical facilities for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
Two tow-trucks were required to remove two of the vehicles from off the road as traffic was backed up and congested for nearly an hour.

A forensic examination of each vehicle, as well as photos that were taken of the scene, will help investigators determine the cause of the accident. Authorities will thoroughly look into how fast each driver was going, whether or not alcohol or drugs were involved, and whether or not there were any mechanical issues with either vehicle. The investigation will also consist of looking at measurements of evidence left by the vehicles such as point of impact, final resting positions of each vehicle, skid marks, and gouge marks.
In such cases where negligence or wrongdoing may have been a factor, victims involved in an accident and not found liable are entitled to personal injury lawsuit against the driver pending the results of the investigation.
