Leona McCovey, 33, ID’d as Suspect in Redding Hit-and-Run at Pine and Shasta
REDDING, CA (October 27, 2021) – Officers detained Leona McCovey after a hit-and-run crash at Pine and Shasta streets in Redding.
Police identified the 33-year-old Redding woman as the suspect who seriously injured a pedestrian last week on Thursday.
The incident began when Leona McCovey was driving a pickup truck in the city of Redding. At the same time, a 75-year-old man was walking at the intersection of Pine and Shasta streets.
Police said for an unknown reason, she struck the male pedestrian in the crosswalk. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and found him down on the ground.

The victim ended up left suffering from major head injuries as a result of the collision. Medical personnel then rushed him to a hospital for treatment.
The reports did not release the name of the wounded patient and his condition at this time. The Action News Now and KRCRTV News wrote that the accident took place on October 14 at about 8:57 a.m.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that Leona McCovey did not stop to help the man and fled the site. They soon located and arrested her at her home.
Officers booked Leona McCovey into the Shasta County Jail for felony hit-and-run causing great bodily injury. The cause of the hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
