Fresno Pedestrian Accident
FRESNO, Calif. (Feb. 3, 2020) — Leonardo Molina, 90, died after he was struck by a vehicle Thursday night while crossing a Fresno intersection in a motorized wheelchair.
The elderly man was struck by a driver who was reportedly turning left at Marks Avenue and Sussex Way, according to the Fresno Bee. Police say that the pedestrian was crossing the road legally, but unfortunately there was no marked crosswalk in the area. Molina was out on a trip to the nearby 7-11 convenience store.
Paramedics took him to Community Regional Medical Center, but he did not survive his injuries.
The driver involved stopped and spoke with authorities about what happened. He told them he didn’t see the victim until it was too late.
Neighbors say it’s a dangerous intersection for pedestrians because there are no crosswalk markings.
The collision remains under investigation by police to determine liability.
