Motorcyclist Leroy Jefferson Jr., 56, Killed in Crash on 5 Freeway
KERN COUNTY (May 4, 2020) – A motorcyclist was killed after a traffic collision along the 5 Freeway north of the Grapevine on Saturday evening.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased party of the May 2 crash as 56-year-old Leroy Jefferson Jr., a resident of Los Angeles.
According to Kern Golden Empire and The Bakersfield Californian, the incident began when Jefferson was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle in the last lane of the southbound 5 Freeway.
Motorcycle and Big Rig Crash on 5 Freeway Near Grapevine Road
California Highway Patrol said for an unknown reason, the rider collided with the rear end of a big rig. He was ejected from his bike, before ultimately landing in the roadway.
Paramedics responded and pronounced Jefferson dead at the scene. Officers reported the fatal accident at approximately 6:50 p.m., south of Grapevine Road.
Meanwhile, CHP did not mention if the truck driver stayed at the site following the wreck. The cause of the tragic collision remains under investigation.
