Woman Killed in Crash on I-5 Freeway in South Bay
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (April 14, 2022) — Leticia Gutierrez De Ordaz, 64, of San Ysidro, died in a collision on the Interstate 5 Freeway near Coronado Avenue in the South Bay.
The deadly crash happened about 10:50 a.m. on April 12th in San Diego’s Nester neighborhood, according to the San Diego Medical Examiner.
Leticia Gutierrez De Ordaz was riding in a red Ford Ranger pickup truck. The 63-year-old man driving the pickup north on the I-5 when he suddenly veered from the left across several lanes of the freeway and collided with a Volkswagen Jetta on the right side. The pickup overturned during the collision. The woman was ejected from the truck. Paramedics responded and rushed her by ambulance to UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest. The San Ysidro woman later died at the hospital. Meanwhile, paramedics transported the pickup truck driver to the same hospital with major injuries.
Additionally, a 24-year-old Chula Vista woman driving the Volkswagen became trapped in her car. She suffered minor injuries and paramedics took her to Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest.
The investigation into the deadly traffic accident is ongoing.
