Lionila Yerena, 78, Killed in Long Beach Crash on Atlantic Ave; Driver Arrested

Driver Charged with Speeding, Vehicular Manslaughter, DUI

LONG BEACH, Calif. (August 25, 2026) — Lionila Yerena, 78, was killed Saturday afternoon in a multi-vehicle hit-and-run crash on Atlantic Avenue in North Long Beach.

Authorities say the collision involved speeding and suspected alcohol impairment.

The crash occurred around 2:40 p.m. in the 6900 block of Atlantic Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Police said Adalberto Delgado-Perez, 38, of Compton, was allegedly driving at high speed in a northbound 2019 Volvo. His vehicle crashed into a 2004 Chevrolet as it was turning from Atlantic Avenue onto Atlantic Place. The impact caused the Chevrolet to overturn, causing major injuries to its occupant, Lionila Yerena who died on scene.

Next, the Volvo crashed into two other vehicles that were stopped at the intersection. The two women and two children in those vehicles were unharmed.

The Compton man driving Volvo reportedly initially fled the scene. However, he returned shortly after and was transported to a hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

Delgado-Perez was booked into Long Beach City Jail and held on $100,000 bail. He faces multiple charges, including suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in death or injury, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and driving under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury.

Also, detectives say that excessive speed and impaired driving were likely contributing factors in the crash.

Finally, witnesses should contact the Long Beach Police Department at 562-570-7355.
