Woman Dead in Head-On Crash Near Walnut and Sultana, 2 Injured
LIVINGSTON (July 14, 2017) – A deadly car accident occurred near the intersection of Walnut Avenue and Sultana Drive, according to a California Highway Patrol dispatch.
The collision which involved three vehicles took place at approximately 1:50 p.m.
In an article by Merced Sun Star, CHP said a 39-year-old Merced woman was driving a 2002 Chevy Impala north at the intersection when for an unknown reason she left the stop sign.
The female driver crashed into a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant driven by another woman. The Galant, registered to an owner in Winton, was then forced into the oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a 2001 Dodge Dakota.
Per Merced Sun Star, the motorist in the Galant died at the scene. Her name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
CHP added that a 52-year-old Winton man operating the Dakota at the time was airlifted while his female passenger, also a 52-year-old Winton resident, was taken by a ground ambulance to a hospital with major injuries.
Meanwhile, the woman in the Impala and a 50-year-old man were unharmed following the wreck.
Authorities are still gathering more information to determine what caused the incident.
In this particular case, there are several factors that may have prompted the fatal collision to happen. Was the motorist who left the stop sign distracted or driving recklessly at the time? Was any driver involved in the crash under the influence of alcohol or drugs? If negligence or wrongdoing played a role, the victims who have been injured and the families of the deceased may be entitled to a personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit against the at-fault party.
