Teen Bicycle Rider Seriously Injured in Livingston Truck Crash on Vinewood Avenue
LIVINGSTON, CA (September 7, 2021) – A teenage bicycle rider was seriously injured after a crash with a truck on Vinewood Avenue near Livingston.
The incident happened when a 14-year-old boy, a resident of Livingston, was riding a bicycle on eastbound Vinewood Avenue.
At the same time, a Ford F-750 two-axle truck was traveling in the same direction at about 45 mph. For an unknown reason, the driver clipped the bicyclist.
Boy, 14, Hit by Vehicle
The California Highway Patrol said the vehicle struck the teen, west of Robin Avenue. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and found him down on the ground.
The boy sustained major injuries as a result of the collision. An air ambulance took him to the Valley Children’s Hospital for treatment.
Officials did not disclose the condition of the wounded victim at this time. Meanwhile, the driver of the truck stopped after hitting the cyclist and cooperated with the officers.
The motorist, 45-year-old Atwater resident Lane Johnson, told CHP that sun was in his eyes and he failed to notice the bicyclist in the lane.
Authorities forced a stretch of Vinewood Avenue to shut down following the crash. The Livingston bicycle and truck collision is still under investigation.
