LLANO, Los Angeles County (March 12, 2017) – Two were killed and three were seriously injured in a head-on crash on Highway 138 Saturday evening, according to ABC 7 News.
The accident involving two vehicles took place about 6:45 p.m. at 175th Street East.
As per the article, California Highway Patrol said a 22-year-old man identified as Jesse Sandoval was allegedly driving a 1998 Chevrolet Camaro Camaro at a high rate of speed when he lost control in a curve. The Camaro then spun into an oncoming lane and collided head-on with a 2012 Ford Fusion.
The impact caused the Fusion to be cut in half. Its passenger, Miriam Yudith Contreras, 29, of Palmdale, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Fusion, Gustavo Escobedo, 31, of Palmdale, operating the Fusion at the time and two other occupants, girls ages 4 and 10, suffered major injuries following the wreck.
The children were flown to Northridge Hospital Medical Center while Escobedo was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, Sandoval was pronounced at the scene.
CHP added that a 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser struck the overturned Camaro amid low visibility. Its driver Richard Saylor, 74, sustained minor injuries.
